--Originally the small publishing house of Doubleday, Page & Company, and surrounded by landscaped gardens
--Called Country Life Press
Frank Nelson Doubleday and Walter Hines Page, well-known authors and editors, and other prominent people in publishing were part of the turn-of-the-century scene for many years
--During World War II, plant was greatly enlarged and gardens became parking lots
--Completely converted to office space in 1956
Sold to West German firm, Bertelsmann, in 1986
